Kanheri Caves, Mumbai – A Pleasant Break from the Noisy Life in City

I had already reached the last day in Mumbai stay. I was happy that I had covered a lot of places during my visit to Mumbai, however on the other hand I was little bit sad to leave the city that night. One more place was left and I was truly looking forward to visit it that day. The Kanheri Caves in Mumbai is one of the oldest destinations in the city where number of people come to spend a quality time with their friends and loved ones. The Caves are in close vicinity to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali. One can experience a gush of fresh air within the environment of Kanheri caves and therefore people often visit here to take a break from the hectic day’s work.

Formed out of natural basalt, the Kanheri Caves have 109 specialized entrances to get inside it. It is also said that the Buddhist preaching and guiding were being provided in the caves where Buddhist monks used to reside hundreds of years ago. One can also find 34 unfinished paintings of Buddha inside the caves with several Viharas or more commonly prayer halls which are around the caves.

As I am a fan of adventure sports, I also had a good time doing all those in the Kanheri Caves. I did some trekking, rappelling and trapeze during my visit to the Kanheri Caves. There are several natural water bodies surrounding the Kanheri caves which offer stunning and refreshing views of the rivers which splashes water all over the land. The restaurants near and around the caves were quite refreshing. Other than big restaurants you would also find certain stalls which keep food and snacks which is a good way to avoid boredom. I munched in some chat, panipuri and freshly baked crisps to the core of my heart.

The Kanheri Caves remain open after 7:30 a.m. in the morning and one can spend an entire day in the vicinity. There are number of shopping places in Andheri, Borivali and Lokhandwala in Mumbai where you would find several shopping malls and number of street side shops selling ladies and gents garments, bags, shoes and other decorative for the house. One can shop all these till the heart’s content.
